Poncey-Highland is a mixed-use urban neighborhood located on the east side of Atlanta around the city’s sprawling Freedom Park. The community is known for its walking trails, art installations, historic buildings, and proximity to downtown Atlanta. Locals refer to the area as a small neighborhood with big character.
 
Poncey-Highland gets its name from the intersection of North Highland Avenue and Ponce de Leon Avenue. It’s a small neighborhood, measuring only .37 miles, with an estimated population of 1,710, according to CityData. Comprised of sections of Copenhill, Ponce de Leon Heights, Linwood Park, and an industrial region adjacent to the Southern Railway, Poncey-Highland includes a blend of residential and commercial districts that were founded from the 1900s through the late 1930s, as well as an industrial corridor that emerged between the mid-1920s and the mid-1950s. Along with modern and contemporary homes and townhomes, Poncey-Highlands features many historic housing styles, including Colonial Revival, Mediterranean Revival, Neoclassical Revival, Tudor Revival, Bungalow/Craftsman, American Foursquare, and American Small House. The area is also home to numerous historic apartment buildings, such as Ford Factory Lofts and the Telephone Factory Lofts.
 
Poncey-Highland is a favorite of young professionals due to its urban feel. In terms of housing, there are ample condos, townhomes, and loft-style properties. The median home value in Poncey-Highland, according to Niche, is $656,579, but many detached homes or larger townhomes have sold for $1 to $1.5 million.
 
Niche gives Poncey Highland high grades in multiple quality-of-life categories such as shopping, nightlife, parks and recreation, public transportation, and urban living. The neighborhood has a C grade in cost of living and housing. While the public schools are well-rated, 70% of families with children send their kids to private schools. The area is surrounded by Freedom Park, a 207-acre park that is also home to the Carter Center and has access to the Atlanta Beltline.
